Hey guys! I am new to acoustics and humidifiers, i just made one myself and i'm wondering what's the best place to put the humidifier in the case?? i know that there a soundhole humidifiers, but i am not referring to those specifically... Right now i have it set up like this:
And it fits real good, what do you think? what's your experience and do you usually have 2? a soundhole humidifier is really that much better?
Most people put them up in the headstock area of the case, but as long as it is secure there and the neck heel does not rub against it, it'll be fine.

If you stand your cases up on end, like in your closet, you might want to orient them in such a way that if you have the sponge too damp they don't drip onto the guitar.
The top and braces have the highest need for extra humidity while neck and fretboard should not be neglected. I suggest you also get a hygrometer with a long lead so you can dangle the probe in the soundhole (and get a reading without opening the case) to make sure you get the humidity where it's needed.

On the advice of my luthier I keep mine in the storage compartment - but it will no doubt work anyplace. I also suggest a hygrometer.
Buy yourself one of those wal mart hygrometers. Don't buy one of those they sell specifically for guitars. My experience with them is they eat batteries and cost 2 to 3 times what the others do.
You have to consider that most of the instrument is sealed with a protective finish designed to resist the entrance of water vapor, so adding containers in areas where they aren't effective will be of questionable value. The largest area of bare wood that will exchange humidity readily is inside the body, so that's why sound hole humidifiers are so popular; they work.

While kudos on your own design, just spend the $5 and get one of these for inside your guitar, where the humidity is mostly needed. It will also treat your whole case. A hydrometer is a good idea too if you are in a extreme climate area and want to maintain a daily %.
Yes, i've read different opinions on where to put it, some people say that in the storage comparment you don't get enugh humidity on the guitar itself... So that's why i'm a bit confused!

I use the sponge in a baggie method. One under the headstock and another under the neck. Soap dish may rattle around. NYC indoor humidity has been above 40% for several days, ready to de sponge!
Storage area. I made a bunch of similar humidipots out of little screw top ziplock container jars. They are just big enough to prop the little fuzzy door open a little to make sure the humidity gets out. I'd set them in in there so the holes would face up as to not leak.

The storage compartment? Is the lid closed? If so, I don't see that would be a good place since most of the humidity would be stuck in the compartment.
