It’s understood among guitar players that playing classical songs is a great way to learn technique and improve playing skills. Whether it’s a classical song written specifically for guitar or a concerto arranged for guitar, playing classical music can help expand your knowledge of music and improve our ability to play more complex stuff. The problem is, most classical music written or arranged for guitar is too complex for beginning guitar players to approach. Unfortunately, this complexity often deters beginners from taking advantage of the benefits of playing classical music.
The good news is that beginning guitarists don’t need to feel left out. There are a lot of easy classical guitar songs available for you to take advantage of. A quick search on the Internet will yield a plethora of classical guitar arrangements of some famous classical works as well as songs written specifically for guitar. You can also find classical exercises and scales you can use to improve your playing. These songs and exercises are usually written in TAB and simplified to make them more approachable, allowing even a player with the most basic ability to dig in and experience the joys of classical guitar.

Check out this passage from “Ode to Joy” by Beethoven, arranged for guitar and notated in both traditional and tab. This is a simplified arrangement suited to finger-style, as is most of the classical music arrangements you’ll find.
Ode To Joy (beethoven)
In the second example, a figure from Bach’s “Prelude-Fugue-Allegro” has been arranged in simplified tab and standard notation. This is an example of a piece you can play as an exercise that utilizes your thumb and all of your fingers.
So many classical songs are so complex to begin with, so even a simplified classical song can be a challenge to play. That’s what makes playing classical music on guitar an exceptional way to expand your skills and develop some extraordinary chops. Many guitarists have incorporated the style into their own sounds, including Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker, and Tony MacAlpine. Playing easy classical songs on guitar is a long way from these players, but it’s a great starting point.Carulli: Waltz in E Minor, Page 1 .. Page 2 – Another piece from Carulli’s method, and here’s the midi file. Once again, faster isn’t necessarily better. The midi file is set for eighth notes=132/minute.
Carulli: Andante in G – This piece from Carulli’s method can be heard in the accompanying midi file. Try playing the piece for grace rather than speed. No faster than 60 bpm (beats per minute) should be sufficient.

Carulli: Country Dance – Since this piece is so easy and fun to play, a top speed of quarter notes=160/min is tempting (and can be heard in the accompanying midi file), but the piece also sounds fine much slower.
Sor: Op. 60, No.1 – This piece needn’t be played fast; quarter notes=110/min is sufficient. To hear this piece at that speed, listen to this midi file.
(A note on the part-writing in this piece: Part-writing is the same as voice-leading. It has to do with recognizing that sometimes a given note isn’t just a part of the harmony or part of a chord, but is rather a part of an individual line or “voice” within the music, such as a melody line, a bass line, or a third voice between the two, or sometimes even more voices put together in all kinds of creative and interesting ways. , for instance, Sor wrote the entire piece as a single part, yet many editors like to make explicit what Sor merely implied, so they edit the piece to signify two distinct parts, which requires changing some the the note durations, the stem directions, and adding rests. This is more than most beginners want or need to know, which is probably why Sor — who was distinguished for his part-writing — decided to forego it in the first three pieces of his Op.60.)This Allegro was already fairly easy for any beginning guitar student who can play the chords Am, Dm, and E, and finger-pick a little... now even easier.

I like it very much, but the arrangement is actually longer than the piece Giuliani wrote - at least as far as I can determine from looking at a transcription of Le Papillon found on IMSLP, a source for free classical music in the public domain.
It has quite a bit of repetition in the right hand finger pattern, making that technique easy to conquer - but somehow I found this piece a challenge to memorize correctly.

Here is the worksheet to go with the guitar piece... I'd probably print BOTH up because this one may look like a mess when your student is done with it!
