Here’s my list of the Top 60 Fingerpicking Songs of All Time. There’s an incredibly varied mix of artists, and it’s arranged by difficulty from beginner to advanced level. Whatever level you’re at, there’s something for you here. Click on each song for the full guitar lesson.
An important part of learning how to fingerpick is simply learning a whole bunch of great songs. Each and every one of these songs has something unique about them, and you’ll learn a huge amount from any you choose to have a go at.
I first started this list in December 2017. Since then I’ve moved and removed a few songs and added some others, so this list is now my updated Top 60. If you're brand new to fingerpicking, then these first few songs are for you. You must be patient when you first get going because it's going to be a little frustrating, trust me! Your fingers will get mixed up and you're going to pick the wrong strings, but it's all part of the fun. Just remember that every time you make a mistake you're one step closer to getting it right.
The next group of songs are aimed at people that have got the foundational techniques down and are looking for some still easy but slightly more involved tunes to learn.

If you can play these songs then you're really on the path to fingerpicking success. These tunes are pretty challenging and will certainly require some dedicated practice. Again, there's some real fingerpicking classics in here.
There's some really complicated stuff going on in all of these songs. Don't let that put you off though as they're all great fun to play. You're doing really very well if you can play any of the tunes from this list, each one requires some serious practice.

Easy Fingerpicking Guitar Songs For Beginners (with Tab)
This is a classic fingerpicking song and is usually the one I start all of my students off with when we fingerpick.
It ticks a lot of boxes as it is simple, melodic, fun, and repetitive. I mean that in a good way. The last thing you want when starting out with fingerpicking is a crazy James Taylor style song where there’s a lot going on without much repetition.
It is one I call the Alternative groove and you will hear it in modern music by artists such as Ed Sheeran and Foo Fighters, as well as in “Clocks”. It is also a gem of a song in the key of A minor.

If you want to learn some easy love songs on guitar, this tune from the early noughties is a great place to start with.
I used to think it was cheesy, in fact, I still do, but it is a great song and I love the singer’s deep, powerful voice. Great guitar work too!
When you want to learn easy guitar songs, you need to be careful that the song doesn’t use any mega awkward chord shapes as these often trip a lot of students up. This could be one of those songs, but I show you how to make the dreaded F chord easier.

One of the best guitar fingerstyle songs from one of the best films ever. This is a stunning piece of guitar music and one that is memorable for anyone who has seen the film.

I have a love-hate relationship with Ed. Not sure he cares much, though. The thing is, he seems like a great bloke, he can play the guitar well, sing well, and write songs well. The problem is, he doesn’t blow me away in any of those aspects. He’s just solid, and a nice chap.
