Best Strings For Maple Acoustic Guitar

I liked D'Addario EJ-17's (PB) on a very similar looking Maple Advanced Jumbo that had alot more depth of tone than one typically expects.

The 'experts' advised me to avoid using 80/20 strings on a Maple guitar. The sound would be too bright. Me being me I RAN to music store and bought a three pack of Martin 80/20 strings and loaded them on my maple Martin, after removing the PB lifespan (...my go to string). Guess what? I loved the sound. Then I tried Elixir 80/20...interesting tone, kind of 'pretty' but no bass. I have those now installed on my maple Parker and it seems to work. My Martin is currently fitted with Rotosound Jumbo Kings PB, and thus far it's the best tone I've ever gotten from that instrument. They are very good strings, a bassier version of EJ16/EXPs.

If you have a great guitar they all sound good, perhaps some better than others, but no general consensus dealing with what tone woods they favor.

There's no way on this earth I could tell OP that string set 'a' is better than string set 'b'. It would be like blind matchmaking. And I think the guitar wood species is irrelevant to his question. I think that the guitar maker influences acoustics, the wood species, not so much.

I own a maple Guild jumbo that I string with either John Pearse Pure Nickel or D'Addario Nickel-Bronze. Prior to that, I strung it with John Pearse phosphor bronze.

It sounds great with any of those strings, frankly, so I would recommend that you continue to experiment with your guitar. If you haven't tried the John Pearse phosphor bronze strings, they sound quite a bit different than the D'Addario phosphors that so many players seem to use as a baseline these days. So give them a try, see whether you like them.

I use Elixir pb lights on my Gibson Dove. You might think they would be overly bright but they sound great. 80/20 or Monels do not sound nearly as good.

I have 2 maple guitars, both Guilds. The 6 string is a GF-60. It has Martin SP light gauge Phosphor Bronze. The other is a JF65-12 with Elixir Phosphor Bronze-probably extra light gauge. I don't think I have ever used anything but PB on these guitars. I've been thinking of trying some Monels, but just haven't yet. Maybe with the next string change. This custom nylon acoustic guitar was recently completed by the craftsmen in the Custom Shop in Bend, Oregon. About the Concert Body Shape: The Concert is our most popular body shape, favored by players because it is well-balanced, compact, comfortable to play, and offers all the qualities of a great sounding guitar. It generates a wonderfully articulate range of tone with an ample low end that is never boomy, but always felt. The Concert works well when played fingerstyle, as vocal accompaniment, or at a full strum. Learn more about the body acoustic guitar body shapes.
