‘Handyman’ is the third single from AWOLNATION’s second album, ‘Here Come The Runts’, released earlier this month. Their 2011 debut album, ‘Megalithic Symphony’ took them to the stars, but the new album leads them into uncharted (sonic) waters.
‘Handyman’ follows on from earlier releases, ‘Passion’, and ‘Seven Sticks Of Dynamite’, both of which were hits for the band, who are currently in the midst of their US tour, before moving to Europe at the beginning of April.
Shot in California, the video for ‘Handyman’ focuses on a classic love story, filled with dreams, heartache, and sweet memories. The clip was directed by Ravi Dhar, and follows a young couple from when they first met in their youth, to their old age, still holding hands. Frontman Aaron Bruno says of the song that he

“finally wanted to tell a good ole fashion love story. We all have the opportunity to be the handyman (or woman) of the heart.”
“I think people are getting really burnt out on hearing robotic instrumentation and robotic vocals. And while I’ve never had robotic vocals, I’ve had a lot of electronic elements.”
As a result, ‘Handyman’ gives us a really So-Cal 60s beach sound, with acoustic guitars, organic drums, and raw vocals all combining together to bring a beautiful pop song to life.

Case in point, “Handyman” is a described straight up love song with some of the most personal lyrics of their career. Starting with a classic acoustic guitar vibe, it launches into their trademark soaring song structure. After a series of singles released from the

Matt Simon was raised on classic rock and Neil Diamond, though his tastes have expanded greatly since. It is his strongly held belief that the Midwest produces everything good in this world and will gladly discuss that fact over coffee. All the major events in his life have a soundtrack attached to it like an audio scrapbook. He loves to listen to the likes of Jessica Lea Mayfield and Frank Turner; wishes he was as cool as Josh Homme, and still foolishly believes that Led Zeppelin will reunite. He resides near Cleveland, Ohio.
