Am auffälligsten sind die Änderungen am Interface. Neue Farben und eine zusätzliche Leiste an der rechten Seite. Die Elemente kann man flexibel ein- und ausblenden. Insgesamt wirkt die Oberfläche aufgeräumter und gefälliger.
Die Soundwiedergabe wurde durch weitere Klänge bereichert. Diese sind durch die Einstellung von Spieltechniken weiter verfeinerbar. Als Beispiel: Nylon – Pop – Plektrum oder Nylon – Klassik – Finger. Wunderklänge darf man von diesen Spielereien nicht erwarten. Der Unterschied ist aber deutlich hörbar und nähert sich dem Originalklang zumindest an.

Der Import und Export von Dateien wurde verbessert. Midi und MusicXML wurde überarbeitet und außerdem werden Audioformate wie MP3 oder OGG bedient. Importiert werden können auch Tabulaturen in den Formaten AscII, TablEdit und PowerTab.
Bei den Eingabemöglichkeiten hat sich nicht viel verändert. Noten können per Tastatur in der Tabulatur oder über ein virtuelles Griffbrett eingegeben werden. Letzteres kann jedoch nun frei skaliert werden. Eine weitere Möglichkeit ist vollständige Akkorde aus einer umfangreichen Datenbank auf das Notenblatt zu ziehen.

Hinzukommen, und das hebt Guitar Pro von Standardnotationsprogrammen ab, zahlreiche Klangeffekte für in der Audio-Ausgabe. Die Spezialisierung auf ist ein Vorteil gegenüber anderen Programmen, wenn man hauptsächlich Noten und Sounds für Saiteninstrumente erstellen will. In anderen Fällen sind Boliden wie Finale oder Sibelius mächtiger.
