SOLD: I have restored this guitar completely to it's stock condition. This means I've put the original gold tuner buttons and gold strap buttons back onto the guitar. I have also removed the Power Pin system and reinstalled the stock white bridge pins. The Power Pins did leave a small circular indentation that is visible if you look close. There are no other marks on this guitar other than the shiny spots mentioned below.
I restored the guitar to original condition in preparation to post on Reverb which I'll do in a couple days. In the meantime I'm dropping the price here from $1, 450 to $1, 250 as I'd rather not deal with Reverb's fees and other new issues that annoy me. So here's your chance to grab a like new Cole Clark Fat Lady 2 in excellent condition for an incredible price. Price includes shipping to CONUS. Thanks for looking. New photos to come shortly.

Original post: I have decided to sell my Cole Clark Fat Lady 2 guitar. I bought this guitar on a whim about a year ago. I already had two Cole Clarks - an Angel and a Little Lady - and I wanted to try out the Fat Lady which is their dread size and most popular guitar. This guitar is an all Blackwood model with level 2 appointments which means gold hardware. Blackwood is similar to Koa in that it's a stiff wood that opens up beautifully over time. Where Cole Clarks excel is when amplified. They have a proprietary 3-way system that incorporates a UST (under saddle transducer) pickup, SBT (soundboard transducer) pickup and internal microphone. Each pickup is designed to detect a different frequency band with crossovers. A minimal footprint onboard EQ allows you to dial in between the three along with three band EQ for fast and easy on-the-fly adjustments. Cole Clark touts this as the 'world's most natural sounding amplified guitar' and they are not wrong. I love them.

I'm only selling because I have three and we are not gigging right now so I'm definitely heavy a guitar. Also, I bought a Martin dread so I'm now covered in the large guitar department. The Fat Lady is definitely the best sounding of the three Cole Clarks amplified with it's large dread body with a wider range of tone across the spectrum. It's also extremely feedback resistant. If you're looking for a guitar that amplifies super-easy then this is it. I love taking it to any open mic (back when we had them) and I could plug into ANY system and with the minimal onboard EQ I could dial in a great tone whether I'm strumming with a pick or playing fingerstyle.
The Fat Lady is a full size dread with a long scale and very comfortable neck shape. The nut width and string spacing is a little different from your regular guitar measurements but as far as feel it's somewhere just a little narrower than 1 3/4 nut and 2 1/4 bridge. Nowhere near as tight as a 1 11/16 nut and 2 3/16 spacing. I'm usually very sensitive to neck shape and prefer 1 3/4 nut and 2 1/4 spacing and I've found the Cole Clarks to be great for me. The guitar is in great shape with no damage that I can see. There is a shiny spot from contact with my forearm and another from my hand down below the soundhole. Funny that gloss guitars get a dull spot from contact while matte/satin finish guitars get a shiny spot.
For upgrades to this guitar I have put on my preferred D'Addario brass strap buttons, nice ebony wood tuner buttons and gold Power Pins. I put on the Power Pins solely for ease of restringing and find they didn't affect the tone for better or worse but they do basically turn your guitar into a pinless bridge. If you don't like Power Pins and don't want them I'll remove and keep them as I want to put a set on my Cole Clark Little Lady anyway. I will include the original strap pins, gold tuner buttons and white bridge pins regardless. I'm going post a link to my original NGD review which includes a video demo. Below are photos from that post and I'll post a few more in a follow up post with the Power Pins.

I had a Fat Lady 2 with a Bunya top and it sounded so good. These are known as “plug in” guitars but I used mine strictly acoustic and it was fantastic. Good luck w the sale.

The Cole Clarks don't sound bad acoustically, just different. They do tend to be a tad bit quieter than other guitars of the same build size, especially the all Blackwood models until they open up. My all Blackwood Angel is a 2016 and it has opened up beautifully. I believe the main reason for the different sound is the neck-through-body design that Cole Clark uses. This also makes for a much more stable neck joint so no need for neck resets down the line.

Thanks. I agree. Anyone looking for this top line model can save nearly a grand on what is basically a like-new guitar with very little playing time. Here we have a new Martin D-28 1937 Custom Authentic. I bought this guitar unplayed and unseen as the only Expert dealer in Canada is on the other side of the country. Unfortunately the guitar got lost or held up in shipping for two weeks and it wasn’t the best experience. Not going to harp on that as a few weeks have gone by and the dealer made things right. Lesson is even though dealer offers free shipping it is probably wise to investigate which shipping method they are using.
This guitar is light at 4lbs. It’s sound is HUGE and it’s construction and appointments are top shelf. I’ve always been curious about Martin Authentic guitars but they are super rare around here and very expensive. There is currently a used D-28 1937 Authentic with Madagascar locally and it is $3000 more than my new guitar. That’s a lot of cake and this D-28 ain’t cheap.

The guitar has a fairly substantial neck but my medium hands make it work with no discomfort. The nut width and string spacing are great for finger picking, strumming and picking. A light touch goes a long way on this guitar as the notes jump off with ease and clarity. It has a great woody and ethereal quality I hear in my J-200 and the bass rumbles through to your chest.

I don’t know how the EIR compares to other Authentic woods or the different things like truss rods affect tones compared to other Authentics but this is one fine guitar out of the case. I think Martin has a winner here with Custom Authentics. These are not the most affordable Martin guitars but still a good value for those looking just a little more without going to a independent builder.
Glad to hear happy owner stories. Hope the feeling lasts. The advantage these guitars have over small boutique builders is name recognition for sure.

Glad so many of these are finding homes with AGF members. It's a home run for Martin and I hope they expand this line to a D-18CA / CAA 1937 as well.

Thx, I’ve been through a few Martins and this is the nicest and different sounding of the bunch. If they do a D-18 in this line I will be very intrigued.

Glad you got to try one. I didn’t have the luxury and took a chance. I did get to play my HD-28 reimagined against it. Two very different guitars and I can see some folks actually choosing the HD-28.So GAS finally got the better of me, and I sold some stuff and purchased a new Taylor 522ce 12-fret. I’ve had it for less than a week, so I’m obviously still newly fascinated with it. But it is a truly fantastic sounding guitar.
Great Australian Acoustic Guitar Brands
I’ve posted a few other times about upgrading my 322ce 12 fretted to the 5 series, but I actually sold other guitars, and currently have both the 3 and the 5. For those of you wondering, they are very different sounding. While they both exhibit the qualities one would expect from a mahogany top, the 522 is MUCH more fundamental (as advertised by
